What makes a song sound lofi
Lofi music borrows the flaws of old gear: tape that runs a little slow, muffled highs, gentle saturation and a soft room sound. A lofi maker recreates those flaws on purpose.
This page opens with a preset that does all four. Speed is 0.92× in varispeed, so the song drops about 1.4 semitones, like slightly slow tape. Tone is at −0.45, a low-pass that rolls off the highs. Drive is at 0.2 for warm saturation. Space is at 0.2 for a small room.
Each piece matters. Slowing the song makes it feel relaxed. Rolling off the highs makes it feel older and softer. Saturation adds the gentle grit of tape and cheap speakers. A little reverb puts the sound in a room instead of right in your ear.
Everything previews live while you play, and the export bakes it all in. You end up with an ordinary audio file you can play anywhere.

Tips for a better lofi sound
Songs with piano, guitar and soft vocals suit lofi best. Loud, dense tracks can get muddy when darkened.

Push Drive gently. A little adds warmth. Too much starts to sound broken.
Take breaks while you tweak. Ears adjust quickly to a dark, muffled sound, and after a few minutes everything starts to seem normal. Come back fresh and you will hear straight away whether it needs more or less.
Try it on a stem too. Run just the other stem, the keys and guitars, through the lofi maker and layer your own drums on top for a lofi beat.
Limitations
The lofi maker does not add vinyl crackle, tape hiss or rain sounds. It shapes the song you give it. It also cannot rearrange the music, so a fast, busy song will still be a fast, busy song, just darker and warmer.

The preset is a middle of the road lofi sound. These variations are good places to go next. Change one knob at a time and listen before moving on.
Lofi relies on subtlety. If you can clearly hear each effect, the result tends to sound processed rather than vintage. Aim for a song that feels like it is playing from an old radio in the next room, not a broken one.
