Isolate the bass, do not just turn it up
A bass booster makes the low end louder. It does not show you the line. This page solos the bass stem so the notes are what you hear, which is the useful version for learning a part.
The bass remover is the opposite mute: the line gone, the band left, so you can play along. Both come from the same split. You do not upload the song twice.
Bass guitar, synth bass and 808s
The stem is everything the model heard as bass, not a label on the record sleeve.
| Part | Where it goes | Practice note |
|---|---|---|
| Electric bass | Bass stem | The usual case |
| Synth bass | Bass stem | Filter movement stays in the stem |
| 808 | Bass, sometimes split with the kick | Solo drums too if the attack vanished |
| Kick drum | Drums | Should not be the note you are learning |
| Low guitar | Mostly other, sometimes bass | If a guitar note appears, that is bleed |
Learn the line, then put the drummer back
Write or just remember the chorus line from the soloed stem. Slow it until the ghost notes are obvious. Then mute the bass, unmute drums and the rest, and play it in time.
If you are transcribing, the key finder and the BPM finder are on the same song. A bass line a semitone off is usually the wrong key, not a wrong ear.
Quality and the phone
Wait for HD before you trust a fast fill. The preview is a rough spectral guess so you can start listening. The model pass is the one to practice to.
Keep the tab on screen on a phone. A three-minute song is comfortable. A long DJ mix is a laptop job.
